Salon Concrete is proud to announce the open gala for Jersey Shore Artist Michael Short on Saturday, February 21st from 6:30-9:30!
Michael Short was born in Denville, New Jersey in 1963, and grew up in Monmouth Beach. He studied art at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz and the Atlanta College of Art in Georgia, as well as philosophy at Hunter College in New York City. While in Atlanta, he worked in the film industry as a set painter. Moving back to New Jersey in the early 90’s, he began a decorative painting business drawing on skills from art school, house painting, and set painting.
This exhibit focuses on the use of found objects. Conceptually, these pieces reflect the meaning and value of work itself, directing attention to our obsession with “new things” and the careless discarding of anything that may require restoration or preservation. This repurposing and recycling of materials is meant to inspire the viewer and challenge them to do the same. Michael lives in Monmouth Beach with his wife, Tara, and two sons, Dylan and Brendan.
