For this week’s post, I wanted to get a little more personal about my experiences with Salon Concrete. I had the pleasure of attending an informal gathering of friends and family at the new salon at Bell Works in Holmdel, NJ. For this old punk rocker and anti-social misfit, this small gathering turned out to be a beautiful group of people celebrating Christine, her team, and the new salon.

Christine has been cutting my hair since 2000. She had just gotten back from Los Angeles and was working for another salon in Red Bank, NJ. Immediately, she and I hit it off; she understood my needs, my values, my aesthetics, and my wants. As you may know, sitting in any stylist’s chair for the first time can be a very daunting experience. Your nerves are working in overdrive, and the level of uncertainty can be overwhelming. For some reason, I did not have that usual uneasiness while Christine started to cut my hair. I don’t know if it was her charismatic personality, the mastery of her fingers, or that chic, Linda Evangelista black bunt bob, but I felt at easeĀ  I guess that ease was something really special…. she’s been cutting my hair ever since (18 years later).
This post is about Christine, but to truly paint the picture, I would need to tell you a little bit about myself. I am clothing designer from NYC. I have worked with many, well known celebrities and have been featured in international publications and TV. Basically, I am very picky. I am very picky when it comes to my hair. I have been to all of the best in NYC. I have been to many hair-stylists based on Christine’s recommendations, but no one has that special something which she so masterfully possesses. Her craft is incomparable. Her skills are a work of art, but it’s not that simple. She understands me. She understands her clients. She hopes to make their life a little better even if it starts with a great hair cut.
More after the gallery…

From Hair Works to Salon Concrete, Christine has transformed Red Bank (and the surrounding areas). She has created a space which thrives on a craft which has the potential to change people’s lives not just physically, but emotionally and psychologically. Salon Concrete is that special space where at any time you can find a mother of 4 who wants to look sexy or that misunderstood teen who wants to look different.
Christine and Salon Concrete have become a big part of my life for the past 18 years. Our professional relationship has grown into a special friendship. I have seen her transform and excel. Christine is a singular vision in a business full of copycats and wanna-be’s. I have seen her children grow up to be beautiful young women. Perhaps, not everyone wants to have the same relationship with their hair dresser as I do, but if you or anyone you know is looking for a change, a new cut, a new color, a new perspective, I couldn’t recommend this place any more: Salon Concrete doesn’t understand mediocrity. They strive for perfection and excellence each time someone sits in the chair. Regardless, if you’re a first time client or a long-time fan, your hair is in good hands with someone who knows “Every Strand Counts.”
If you haven’t been to the new salon, make an appointment now. It will be hair-raising experience.
